Frequently Asked Questions
What is moling?
Moling is a trenchless method used to lay utility pipes. During the moling process, two service holes are dug at the start and end of the desired path, then a pneumatically-driven machine known as a mole forces its way through the soil along the desired path thus avoiding the need to dig a trench.
How much does moling cost?
When it comes to quoting, there are several contributing factors that will make up the final cost. Moling itself is priced per metre so any costing would be based on the length the mole needs to travel. However, moling is typically cheaper than traditional trenching.
Why would I want moling?
Moling is used as a quicker, less disruptive, and more efficient method of laying a pipe. A mole might be used where it is not possible to carry out trenching. A mole will cause less surface disruption than trenching and other methods, it is also more environmentally friendly than open excavations.
What are the benefits of moling?
Moling, as opposed to trenching, offers several major benefits. Moling will cause less disruption as you only need to make two excavations (a launch and a reception pit) instead of carrying out expensive untidy trenching that takes longer and may require additional equipment.
